Happy National Nonprofit Day! To celebrate, I just donated $5.00 to my favorite nonprofit, Coffee Party USA. I am a director and officer of the organization and I just donated $5.00 in addition to my regular $10.00 monthly dues. I am asking my readers to please match my $5.00 donation.

For what we do, I’m being a good environmentalist and recycling what I wrote for Coffee Party USA invites you to watch these political movies while staying safe at home.

Coffee Party USA ia a 501c(4) nonprofit social welfare organization dedicated to empowering and connecting communities to reclaim our government for the people. To support its efforts, which include educating the public on our website and on our Facebook page, registering people to vote with our partners TurboVote and National Voter Registration Day, and reminding them to vote through our Voter Buddy program, please consider donating. A donation of $10.00 for ten years of Coffee Party USA is recommended. Ten dollars will also buy our partner stamp with Stamp Stampede to stamp money out of politics. For those who wish to give at a higher level of support and be more involved in the organization, please consider becoming a member. To do the valuable work of the Coffee Party, volunteer. Not only will Coffee Party USA thank you for it, so will the country!

Thank you in advance for your matching donation.

Once again, Happy National Nonprofit Day and Coffee Party on!

Hey, all of you binge-watching your guilty pleasure shows while staying safe at home, relaxing after working from home, returning for work after wearing a mask all day, or just stressed out from the real world! I have another suggestion to make your time in front of the big-screen TV in the living room, the slightly smaller screen in the bedroom, or even holding your tablet or smartphone work to help your appreciation of politics and government on television and then apply your understanding to help Coffee Party USA in one of our projects.

Last month, Coffee Party USA invited you to watch these political movies while staying safe at home, which led to the 2019 Coffee Party Entertainment Awards for movies, AKA the Golden Coffee Cups for Movies. It is now time for the next phase of these awards.
The members will also be voting on the nominees and winners of the Golden Coffee Cups for television programs and their performers that demonstrate the best in politics and government on the small screen. Watch for an announcement of the shortlist of possible nominees from the 2018-2019 television season and an invitation to watch them next week, much like Coffee Party USA invites you to watch these political movies while staying safe at home, followed by the nominees of the 2019-2020 season in the summer.
Follow over the jump to read the shortlists for television shows in five categories along with a two-part activity involving them. )

The members of Coffee Party USA have voted on the nominees for the 2018 Coffee Party Entertainment Awards for movies, also known as the Golden Coffee Cups, so it's time to announce the winners. "Harriet" swept the categories in which it was nominated, winning Best Drama or Comedy about Politics or Government of 2017 AKA the Best Political Scripted Movie, while Cynthia Erivo won two awards for playing Harriet Tubman in "Harriet," Best Portrayal of an Activist or Concerned Citizen in a Film and Best Performance by an Actor in a Political Film, for a total of three awards. Annette Bening won the vote for Best Portrayal of a Government Official in a Film playing Senator Dianne Feinstein in "The Report." "Apollo 11" won two awards, first for Best Documentary about Politics or Government and the second for U.S. President John F. Kennedy as Best Appearance of a Government Official in a Documentary. Congratulations to all the winners for depicting what the members of Coffee Party USA considered to be the best of politics and government in film during 2019!

An early Happy Birthday to Coffee Party USA on Irish Coffee Day! I begin the celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the nonprofit for which I'm a director with Broken Peach singing Happy Birthday.

"Happy Birthday!"

If it's a birthday, then there must be presents! I am asking my readers give a gift to Coffee Party USA by making a donation of $10.00 (or more) to match either my monthly dues of $10.00 that I paid three days ago or the $10.00 I donated today for the organization's birthday. Click on the link, fill in the "other" box with 10.00, click continue to fill in your contact information, then proceed to payment. Coffee Party USA will thank you for donating.

Your donation will allow you to be a part of the important work of Coffee Party USA, a 501c(4) nonprofit social welfare organization dedicated to empowering and connecting communities to reclaim our government for the people. Our efforts include educating the public on our website and on our Facebook page, registering people to vote with our partners TurboVote and National Voter Registration Day, and reminding them to vote through our Voter Buddy program. This is an election year, so our work with TurboVote and National Voter Registration Day is especially important. Americans need to be registered and reminded to vote in this year's elections, both primary and local.

For those who wish to give at a higher level of support and be more involved in the organization, please consider becoming a member. Beginning this year, members will get to nominate and vote for the Golden Coffee Cups for Movies and Television, so there is an extra incentive to become a member, not just a contributor. To become more personally involved with the valuable work of the Coffee Party, volunteer. Not only will Coffee Party USA thank you for it, so will the country!

Thanks for donating. Let's get to work inciting civility and reason!

Now that you've donated, treat yourself. In addition to today being National Irish Coffee Day, National Day Calendar lists yesterday as National Peanut Butter Day, tomorrow as National Peanut Brittle Day, and Monday as National Chocolate Cake Day. Pick one, or enjoy them all. In the meantime, Coffee Party on!

Happy Giving Tuesday!
National Day of Giving encourages giving back. It takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
...
Quite simply, take advantage of all the holiday deals to add to your charitable giving. Combined with your family, friends, local and national organizations and through the power of social media, Day of Giving can become a tradition worth passing on.
My tradition for the day, which I began On Giving Tuesday 2017 and continued last year, is to donate to my favorite non-profit, Coffee Party USA. I am a director and officer of the organization and I just donated $10.00 to it for Giving Tuesday. In addition, I'm asking my readers to match my donation.

As for what my donation and yours will do for Coffee Party USA, our supporters, and our country, I'm going to be a good environmentalist and recycle what I wrote orginally in Happy National Coffee Ice Cream Day from Coffee Party USA! and reused in Celebrate National Coffee Day 2019 by donating to Coffee Party USA.

Happy National Coffee Ice Cream Day!
If you are a coffee lover and a lover of ice cream, then this is the food holiday you look forward to every year. National Coffee Ice Cream Day is observed annually on September 6th.
Since today is a coffee national day, I'm using it to promote Coffee Party USA, just like I did last year on National Ice Cream Day by being a good environmentalist and recycling and updating what I wrote for National Nonprofit Day 2019.

I am celebrating National Coffee Ice Cream Day by asking my readers to donate to my favorite nonprofit, Coffee Party USA. I am a director and officer of the organization and I just donated $88.00 in addition to my regular $10.00 monthly dues.* That's far more than I expect my readers to donate, so instead I am asking my readers to please make a donation to match what I donated on National Nonprofit Day or my regular monthly contribution.

I described where your money and mine will go in Coffee Party USA announces the winners of the 2017-2018 Golden Coffee Cups for television

The Board of Directors is also holding its annual retreat at the end of this month, and your donations will help support our meeting while we plan the direction of the organization through next year.

Thanks for reading my appeal and even more thanks if you matched my dues through your donation or became a member.

Happy National Nonprofit Day! As I did last year, I am celebrating by asking my readers to donate to my favorite nonprofit, Coffee Party USA. I described where your money and mine will go in An early happy 9th birthday to Coffee Party USA and Happy Irish Coffee Day!
Your donation will allow "you to be a part of the important work of Coffee Party USA as we empower and connect communities to reclaim our government for the people." It will go to improving our website, the new version of which Coffee Party USA debuted in October and registering people to vote with our partners TurboVote and National Voter Registration Day. There are municipal and some state elections coming up this year and people need to be registered and reminded to vote in them.
Thank you in advance for your matching donation.

Once again, Happy National Nonprofit Day and Coffee Party on!

*I also donated $40.00 last month to match the $40.00 I paid to vote in the 2019 Saturn Awards. I decided this year that I would make a matching donation to Coffee Party USA for any donation I made to any other nonprofit this year. That means that I will match the renewal of my membership to the Detroit Zoo later this month. That would be $88.00 for a dual membership. I'm not asking my readers to match those donations, but if any of you did, the Coffee Party and I would appreciate you and your donation!

Campaign finance reform and corporate reform are serious issues, but that doesn't mean that members and supporters of the Coffee Party can't have fun while working to "pass campaign finance laws that limit the impact of special interest groups such as corporations, major political parties, and lobbyists" and affirm that "Corporations are not people, but consist of people" as the Coffee Party's own goals declare. To that end, Coffee Party USA has partnered with Stamp Stampede to "stamp money out of politics."

Simply order the Coffee Party USA custom stamp from our partners at Stamp Stampede by clicking on the link. When your stamp arrives, start stamping your dollar bills. As Stamp Stampede says on its website, "Every dollar you stamp will reach 875 people, if you stamp 5 dollars a day for a year, that's over a million. Together, we can create a stampede that Congress can't ignore."

By the way, this is all perfectly legal. As our partners at Stamp Stampede have written, "it’s illegal to destroy paper currency or deface it so much that it’s no longer recognizable and has to be taken out of circulation. But that’s definitely not what we’re up to... Because we all want these bills to stay in circulation and we're stamping to send a message about an issue that's important to us, it's legal!"

What do our partners at Stamp Stampede expect once the people get the attention of Congress? They want "a constitutional amendment declaring that: 1) Money is not speech; [and] 2) Corporations are not people." Coffee Party USA supports these goals and asks that you, our members and supporters, get the message out through stamping your money. The results will be a lot more concrete and enduring than sharing one of our posts on Facebook, which we still want you to do, too.

Once we limit the power of special interest groups to influence our elections, we can work on making the rest of our vision true, that of "empower[ing] and connect[ing] communities to reclaim our government for the people" and making America "a nation of diverse communities sharing a culture of informed public engagement where our our solemn duty to vote is the only currency of our representative democracy."

In addition to spreading the word about getting money out of politics, purchasing a stamp will help support the Coffee Party. Stamp Stampede forwards a share of the price of each stamp to Coffee Party USA. Not only does each stamp get our message out, it acts as a fundraiser.*

So get your stamp and start stamping!

From the Coffee Party Blog: Taxpayers Take Action — April 10 thru 18

Please join the Facebook group Taxpayers Take Action 2011 to participate in planning and strategy for April 10-18 events.

Wow. So, we're still kind of stunned by the flood of donations this week. Despite the website crashes we suffered, we ended up topping $128,000 in our month-long membership drive, with an incredible $75,000 raised since Monday afternoon. Apart from "wow," the primary words on our minds are "thank you." We don't know what else to say.

Coffee Party membership card

Today is the last day to join and receive a Founding Member card with a unique membership number and an Official Coffee Party USA bumper sticker with the motto "Incite Civility & Reason." Deadline is 11:59:59 P.M., Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time. That's just one second before 5 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, 4 A.M. Central Standard Time, 3 A.M. Mountain Standard Time, 2 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, and 1 A.M. Alaska Standard Time.

To sign up for a 1-year Founding Membership, click here and to sign up for a Sustaining Membership with automatic renewal, click here. Minimum donation is $10, which is for unemployed and students. The standard recommended donation is $50.

The membership drive was originally scheduled to last only until the end of February, but overwhelming last-minute demand resulted in the extension until just before Midnight March 3 in the farthest west inhabited U.S. states.

As of yesterday evening, more than 3000 people had contributed more than $115,000 since the membership drive began. More than $70,000 of that was donated between Monday afternnon and Tuesday night. This last amount is as much money as was donated during all of 2010!

On Feb. 28 we got a lot of donations all at once, which crashed our on-line donations tool several times. To avoid the overload, we've extended the Founding Members drive until midnight Hawaiian time March 3, 2011, which is 5 AM eastern time March 4, 2011. Despite the interruptions, we blew past our goal of $50,000 and are now over $115,000 with $70,000 raised since Monday afternoon.

Mod note: Coffee Party USA raised more money in the last two days than we did all of last year.

The Truth Is

Dear Friends,

Thank you for persevering despite our donations site overloading several times last night. It takes more than that to deter a Coffee Party Founding Member! This membership drive has surpassed all our goals, and, surpassed our imagination.

Due to Hundreds Joining at Once, Our Donation Site Has Been Crashing!
Dear Coffee Partier,
An extraordinary thing happened today.
We sent out an email at 4pm ET reminding people who have not already joined that today was the last day to become a Founding Member of the Coffee Party.
Hundreds of people started joining at once and our payment site has been crashing!

We apologize for the inconvenience if you've had difficulties or have been unable to contribute. The problem seems to come and go depending on how much traffic we get on the page. To avoid the overload, we are extending the Founding Members drive until midnight Hawaiian time March 3, 2011, which is 5 AM eastern time March 4, 2011.

We are currently working with our service provider to fix the problem so that you don't continue to have this problem.
The great news is that despite the service interruptions, we blew past our goal of reaching $50,000 and we are now nearing $70,000.
Starting tomorrow, please click here and make a contribution of $10 or more to receive a personalized Founding Member card and a Coffee Party bumper sticker.
Thank you all for being part of this movement! We are truly excited about 2011.
-Annabel, Eric, Sabina, David and the Coffee Party National Team
